Katie is an artist and full time shop owner behind KT's Canvases. She designs creates, photographs, markets and ships the items on her website. She started in 2013 as a hobby, but believes god had a career plan instead, and fuelled her passion for business and creativity. After leaving college in 2017 she decided to focus on her growing business putting all her effort into it.

Her family has always supported her, especially her mom who packs orders with her and manages emails for her. She 'couldn't do it without her'.

She creates art designs and prints digitally or physically which she prints them onto items she goes onto sell on her website and in her shop. these items range from notebooks, pillowcases, phone case's, tote bags, prints and stickers. These art pieces and designs are of a range of different things such as flowers, leaves, dogs, bees, gnomes fruit and other nature inspired paintings. 

She loves animals and creating pet art because of the joy pets bring into peoples lives, her goal being to help celebrate how much they mean to you in a fun, light hearted way through her drawings and prints.

She also has two cats herself, one named Batman who she rescued and the other called Ella. Her adoption of Batman inspired her pet art and she is happy that all the products she sells in her shop a percentage of the profit from all the products she sells in her shop are donated to the Best Friends Animal Society as well as the actual organisation that rescued Batman, Floyd Felines in her town.

Paint Pouring

For this process first I filled a tray halfway with water  I then mixed up my paint colours using both poster paints and oil paints mixing each colour with either linseed oil or white spirit. For my first attempt I used a pink colour pallet making a range of pink shades of paint along side red white and a few purple shades.  I began by pouring my different colours in the water filled tray, then using the end if a paintbrush to mix the colours to create a nice pattern in the water. I then placed a piece of paper onto the patterns then lifting the paper off to reveal the pattern that has now been printed onto the paper. I repeated this process numerous times to create a range of different patterns and pieces. After all the paper was dry I picked the pieces that I thought worked best an put them in sets to be mounted to display in my exhibition.

Joseph Lee inspired artwork

After looking at Joseph Lee's work I was inspired to try out a similar art form to his portrait work. For my piece I decided to take photos and manipulate my image using a printed out copy on cartridge paper. i mixed up colours in similar tones to my my portrait photos, I then also mixed my paint into textured paste a this is a cheaper way to create an effect of thick paint smudges and dries a lot quicker too. Here are my results:
