Making a Mosaic

Wednesday 15th September

I have managed to get my hands on some tiles to use to make my mosaic however they are all white, with some being smooth and some being textured. I now need to source an adhesive and a board of some sort to have the mosaic on. I also need to come up with a design and a solution for all my tiles being the same colour.

Wednesday 24th November

Due to a range of reasons including the transference of Corona Virus, insurance, age the lack of people having colourful tiles in their bathrooms I have only been able to get my hands on white tiles.

Despite this fact, I am going to persevere with this section of my project and work around this inconvenience. I plan on giving colour to my tiles by using acrylic paint.

Experimentation

next step:
to smash the tiles into small pieces
then figure out a design

ideas for design:
stained glass window
randomly placed tiles

For my design I went with having red at the top going into purple, going into blue and finishing with green.

My first attempt at mosaic did not work as I got grout on top of the tiles and left some gaps between a few of the tiles. When I tried to remove some of the dried grout from the top of the tiles it rubbed the paint off of some tiles.

After having my first attempt at making a mosaic I have learned that it is quite difficult to make a mosaic as the grout dries a lot quicker than I originally anticipated. I also tried to remove some of the grout from on top of the tiles however it also took away the paint with it. As a result this was a failed attempt and would have worked a lot better if I could have had access to coloured tiles.
